Teen Vaping

This is a response to Sean Mills’ post about teenvaping . I really liked the points discussed. Sean talks about the impact of teen vaping and he uses numbers to back up his statements. Sean informed us by giving us the name of the harmful chemical causing all these deaths, I would also like to add that this chemical was not only found in tobacco products, it was found in marijuana cartridges as well. This is something amusing to me as vaping products were made for our conveniences but at the price of our health. My first reaction to this post was that I agreed with the government stepping in because it would hold the vaping companies accountable. This would improve the health of the individuals who otherwise would continue to use these products. Although I believe this to be true, I do not think the state government should be allowed to dictate what vaping companies put out on the market, that is the beauty of capitalism. Instead of banning vape products, the government should requir

Build bridges not walls

Before becoming President, Trump was a well-known businessman. During his Presidential campaign, he became even more famous. One of the reasons he became famous was for his notorious campaign Promises. His most famous promise perhaps was that the United States was going to build a wall and Mexico was going to pay for it. This method of his was plain and simple, a campaign document read “It’s an easy decision for Mexico: make a one-time payment of $5-10 billion”. He believed Mexico would just hand over the money like that because of their need for American money. After realizing how dumb of an idea this was, he is now looking at new ways to keep his promise. The wall should not be built for several reasons. In my opinion, I believe one reason the wall should not be built is because of the symbolic meaning behind it. To me the wall represents segregation, it is a message from the American government that the relationship between Mexico and the United States is a parasitic one. W

Joking Around

I am writing this as a response to “ Trump the Joker ”. I remember when Trump first started his political campaigns. I remember thinking to myself “this dude is a clown, there is no way he has a chance”. Fast forward a little later and he became the main candidate for the Republican Party, won presidency and is now intending to serve a second term, hopefully the latter will not happen. It is very well known to us that Americans are either far right or far left and there is those few of us that are willing to have a civil discussion. A great example of being far right was this election, I didn’t have a problem with people voting Republican, I had a problem with people choosing Trump as the face of the Republican Party. Voting for Trump meant overlooking all the hateful things he has said, it was undivided loyalty to a political party regardless of outcome. “When Mexico sends its people, they’re not sending their best. They’re not sending you. They’re sending people that have lots of

The Dreamers

Our current President Donald Trump made some very interesting campaign promises, some good, some bad. Not only did he become more famous because of it, he also became more popular in the campaign raise.Amongst his campaign promises was building the wall and ending DACA. Like many of the promises he made, I thought these two were simply outrageous and comical. To my surprise, many people liked the promises and supported them. The wall should not be built plain and simple. But I am not here to talk about the wall, I am her to talk about DACA. Not Many people know about this program, DACA stands for Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals. It is a program that protects individuals who arrived to the states as kids and have lived here ever since. DACA grants a renewable temporary 2-year protection from deportation to these individuals. In the early days of September 2017 Trump chose to move forward with his promise and end the program, which was announced by Attorney General Jeff Sess

Love in America

On June 26, 2015, the U.S. Supreme Court held in a 5–4 decision that the Fourteenth Amendment requires all states to grant same-sex marriages and recognize same-sex marriages granted in other states. Andrew Sullivan speaks about this very important decision made and how it has affected same-sex couples. I chose his post “ It Is Accomplished ” because I wanted to gain more information on the subject from someone who identifies as a conservative homosexual man. Sullivan begins his post by explaining to us the different legal hardships people have had to endure to legalize same-sex marriage. He describes that “For many years, it felt like one step forward, two steps back”. I would also like to remind us that homosexual people have had to endure much worse hardships than trying to legalize same-sex marriage, such as hate crimes and violence. One good example of this is the American Horror story show in which a homosexual woman is in an asylum just because of her sexual orientation, a

Soccer, a Universal Language

Soccer or football, however one may call it, is the most popular sport in the world. According to worldatlas.com it is estimated that at least half of the global population consider themselves soccer followers. It is also a known fact that we have a crisis at the border with thousands of children flooding in, many within the single digit age range. A big majority of these kids come without adult supervision, regardless of this, they want the same thing the adults want, a chance at a better life. Luma Mufle, from the Dallas Morning News talks about the controversial decision the Trump Administration has made, which is end recreational programs for kids in shelters. The administration decided to take away the opportunity to play soccer from these kids as they deemed it “not directly necessary for the protection of life and safety”. Mufle argues that this is a very bad decision and she talks about the negative impact it has on the children.                 My impression while readi

Area 51

Area 51 is the common name of a highly classified United States Air Force facility located within the Nevada Test and Training Range. It is believed that the facility has top secret discoveries there. Some people believe that many of the discoveries in that facility are alien related. Area 51 has gained more attention ever since a post named “Storm Area 51” was created on Facebook. Fox News covers the excitement around this facility in their article, it covers a “community” of alien believers in Nevada. These believers set a satirical “storm area 51” base camp for a weekend. The base camp is not to raid Area 51, but to find like minded people. Whether you believe Aliens are real or not, it is definitely worth the read. The more information you receive on a subject, the more of an informed opinion you can give.
